i was pressured into making the things- i tried not to agree b/c i knew i would be super busy. i was very clear the first time it was discussed that i would have little time for them because of student teaching and didn’t know when i’d get them done. because of that it ended up taking longer than i would have liked and i plan to discount b/c of that. gah i just need to learn to say no!
but anyway- when i had time to do it i couldn’t because she didn’t get me the measurements and all the material. the fabric messed up my machine but they got done, i helped install them and received no compensation what so ever. i think i know how to broach the subject but i have no idea how to calculate the charge. i know it should have been discussed before hand but that’s not how it worked out…. i made 2 thermal insulators, 4 sheer panels and 4 drapes. i came across the EXACT same sheers at bed bath & beyond for 25$ a panel and comparable drapes run about 30-40$. the fabric they got cost… about 160-200 i can’t seem to find the receipt
haha, thanks for the support guys and gals! i am doing a bill for sure but i have NO IDEA how to properly charge for stuff. i did a rediculously conservative guess that i spent 14 hours doing them (i unfortunately didn’t keep track!) and multiplied that by min wage (also rediculously conservative or my skill level p)- and that is 100.10$… i can’t imagine asking for that! so i thought maybe the 2 insulators at 5$ each, the 4 sheers at 7$ ea and the 4 drapes at 10$ ea… so 78$ total…
so 78$me+160$materials=238$
vs the cost of comparable sheers and drapes
(4*25$)+(4*40$)= 280$
…plus whatever the insulation would be- can’t find it online

I’ve been shopping for both window treatments and shower curtains lately….what has happened? Even old reliables, like JC Penneys, look like they either belong in a brothel or a bottom of the barrel discount house. I’m not normally that picky of a person, but it’s hard to believe I can’t find a pretty floral print – but I COULD buy fuzzy, hot pink drapes with beads down the middle. I don’t get it.

I have 9 foot high ceilings and finding non-standard sizes is a bi itch. Anyone know of any discount outlets (SF Bay area) or online that i can get some decent curtains/drapes for cheap? would making it myself be an option if i had elementary sewing skills? my gf is crazy and wants to spend up to 0 on a pair!! gagh!!!
